Berserk Manga to Continue Without Creator

Berserk creator Kentaro Miura passed away on May 6th, 20221 due to acute aortic dissection, at the age of 54. In the wake of his death, he left behind an amazing legacy by creating arguably one of the best mangas of all time. Many fans of the series wondered what would happen to Kentaro Miura's keepsake, and after a bit of grief, the thought that Berserk cannot continue without its creator settled in.

On June 7th, 2022, Kouji Mori, Miura's close childhood friend, announced that the Berserk manga series will continue without Kentaro Miura. Mori stated that Studio Gaga reached out to him and asked if he would like to continue the story of Berserk since he was the only one that Miura told the series ending to. After much reluctance and initially only wanting to have a hands-off role, Mori accepted the offer and will supervise the continuation of Berserk with Miura's assistants.

The publishing company Young Animal and Miura's assistants at Studio Gaga will be giving "full support" to Mori, as he tries to reconstruct an imperfect continuation for the series. As of this writing, it is unclear how many more Arcs of chapters are left in the story. It has been confirmed that there are 6 chapters left in the Fantasia Arc. After those 6 chapters, it is unclear how long the story will continue.

The Young Animal Editing Department stated, "Upon resuming the series, our production team decided on a basic policy: Mr Miura said so. This is what the production team kept in mind. We believe that this policy, although imperfect, is the best way to deliver the Berserk that Mr Miura envisioned to everyone as faithfully as possible".

Although the publishing company Young Animal and Kouji Mori are trying to temper fan expectations, I can't help but be excited. Not only will one of the best manga ever created get to see its ending, but it will also put a bowtie on Kentaro Miura beloved creation. In a way, Berserk ending will provide fans some closure knowing Miura gave this to the world and now his project may also get to rest in peace.
