The Super Mario Bros Teaser Trailer Debut

Fans have been eagerly awaiting for the first look at The Super Mario Bros Movie ever since it was announced back in 2018. After years of waiting, Nintendo has lifted the curtain on the animated movie being worked on by Illumination during a simulcast with New York Comic-Con. Illumination is best know for its work on Despicable Me and adapting the Dr. Suess books into animated films. The teaser trailer can be found below:
During an interview at New York Comic-Con, Jack Black offered a bit more insight into what to expect from the film. Per Jack Black, "I did a little bit of rocking. I think you'll be surprised to see that Bowser has a musical side". Black also added that Bowser is, "One of the great video game villains of all time"! Taking what the voice of Bowser has said, we can infer that there might be a musical number sometime during the film where Bowser lets out his inner Tenacious D.
We can also hear Chris Pratt's Mario debut and he was spot on. It was unlike anything we've ever heard in the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario sounded exactly like Chris Pratt, mixed with a Brooklyn accent here and there. It was surprisingly not as cataclysmically bad as many had thought it would be.

The teaser trailer did show some rough edges that will more than likely be worked out by the film's release. The most notable thing missing was Mario's voice lines after he lands in the Mushroom Kingdom. A thing to keep in mind is that this is just a teaser trailer and cuts could have been made to not overexpose anything. Chris Meledandri or Illumination stated during the Nintendo Direct that animation work will be finishing up next week, and the crew will continue working on the film until closer to release.
The Super Marios Bros Movie is set to release on April 7th, 2023 in theaters only.
